BEWARE! PICTURE OVERLOAD!!

This year was our 4th Annual Wilstead Family Reunion and Katie and Rodney were in charge. Surprisingly, Mom and Dad both come to the reunions and we all get along civilly. Katie and Rodney live just outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and planned for our reunion to be over the weekend of the Balloon Rodeo. Dad and Denise and Becky and Randy pulled their trailers up and we all camped out on Katie's property. Mom stayed with Becky and Randy and Kris and Ashton came a little later, staying with Dad and Denise. Instead of tenting it in Katie's yard, my family camped out in Katie's living room.
The weekend of the 4th, I started to feel a little under the weather and eventually came down with the Swine Flu, it was miserable. The Swine Flu then turned into pnemonia and felt like I just wanted to die. I was out of work for 2 weeks and Allen missed a few days to help with the kids because I was so out of it. I started to feel a better as the reunion approached, but I still wasn't a hundred percent. But I wasn't going to miss it for anything. The first few days tuckered me out but by the end of the weekend I was feeling pretty good.
Becky and Randy left a couple of days before everyone else and made some stops on the way. To help me out they took the girls with them. They ended up stopped in Vernal, Utah at the Dinosaur Museum. The kids had a lot of fun learning about dinosaurs and seeing all the bones and such. They also had to make frequent stops to feed Audrey and the other kids and for potty breaks, so it was a slow going trip for them, but the kids had a blast riding with each other. They also took our 4-wheelers with them to help us out. Randy was pretty sure they would have room for our 2 and their 2, but as he packed the trailer, they wouldn't all fit without putting the 2 little ones on top of each other. They ended up calling us and telling us to bring our little trailer so we could get them all home.

Allen and I ended up leaving Tuesday night. We had planned on Rock being able to sleep the whole way there and us being able to drive right through. Boy, were we wrong. Rock stayed awake all the way to Craig, Colorado (about 30 minutes from Steamboat). We had to stop several times for him because the car seat gets so uncomfortable and confining. When got to Katie's around midnight or so and then Rock was up for a couple of hours. We decided we are never going to travel at night again with the intent of the kids sleeping, it sure backfired on us.
On Wednesday we went in to town to get a few odds-n-ends that everyone had forgotten and then just sat around visiting with everyone. The kids rode 4-wheelers in the hills right there by Katie and Rodney's house. That afternoon Dad and Denise arrived and we helped to get their camp settled. The kids then made their annual T-shirt. This year they made it with fabric puffy paint, they all ended up very cute. That evening, Allen's sister, Patty, came from Denver to stay the weekend with us. Since we were so close to her and hardly ever get to see her, she was able to get some time off and come to see us. We didn't have anything planned that day, but it was lots of fun seeing the cousins get to play with each other and just visiting with the family.

Thursday morning, Kris and Ashton arrived and we met them in town for some fun. We started out walking down town and going to all the fun little shops on main street. Steamboat is a tourist town and they have some cute, quaint shops that are so fun to visit. Then we ate at one of the best places in the world, Double Z Bar. They have the best barbecue ever. Our big group took up lots of room and tables and we had to sit outside in the sun, but it was so worth it!! The food is incredible. Then we went to the Alpine Slide and the kids had a blast!! They all rode it a thousand times and even the adults had lots of fun. The only one who did not go up the hill was Becky. Maybe next time we'll be able to get her to do it. After our day in town we went back to Katie's for dinner and more visiting. And of course, the kids rode the 4-wheelers forever. When the sun went down we all watched movies with Becky and Randy's projector on the side of their trailer.

On Friday, we rode up into the mountains behind Katie's house and pulled the 4-wheelers up there to ride. We all had lunch and rode all over the mountain side. Again, Becky didn't ride, and again maybe next time!!! The guys for sure had lots of fun and obvisouly the kids did too. When we were loading up the 4-wheelers to head down the mountain, Dad had an accident with one of the straps and it sliced his hand open. Katie ended up taking him and Denise down the mountain before the rest of us could leave and took Dad to the ER. He ended up with a few stitches, but overall was OK. That night brought us more visiting and more riding on the ATVs. And, again, we watched movies with the projector screen.

Early, early, early Saturday morning, we rode into town to catch a bus to go to the Balloon Rodeo. It is a out in a field where there were about 30 or 40 hot air balloons that we got to be right next to while they were getting ready to take off. We got to watch the riders and balloon teams do their stuff and watch the balloons inflate then take off. It was really cool. It was also very COLD that morning. For being July, we froze our butts off!!! Allen and Patty stayed behind with Rock so he wouldn't be out in the cold so early in the morning and Rodney volunteered to sleep in for all the rest of us. Aren't they so nice?? After all the balloons took off, we went back to town and had breakfast at a place called The Egg & I. Our group was much larger then they were used to having and again we had to sit outside, but by this time we were begging for the hot sun to sit in. Allen, Patty and Rock met us after breakfast at the fair in town. There a thousand booths set up that we walked around and looked at. Most were of things to buy, but some were educational and interesting things. It was quite fun. After a couple of hours, though, the sun was out in full bloom and we were so HOT and ready to go home. We headed back to Katie's for some to take naps, some to ride 4-wheelers and some to just relax. It was great.

Then I needed to get something out of the van. When I got to it, all it's doors were locked. I saw my purse on the floor on the inside of the van and so yelled for Allen to unlock the door for me. That's when we realized his keys were inside the van as well. We tried for an hour or so to get into the van, when finally Randy used his onstar and called a locksmith for his vehicle. Which when the locksmith got there, he really unlocked our vehicle. Thanks for saving us the dough, Randy!!
Sunday morning, we got up, ate breakfast and then everyone packed up to go home. It was a little sad to leave everyone and end our vacation. But we had a lot of fun. Allen and I followed Becky and Randy and Dad and Denise. About 2 miles outside of Hayden, our trailers tire blew. We pulled off the road safely and everyone was okay, but we didn't have a spare. We couldn't get dad or randy on the phone for a while and by the time we did, they were just about to Craig. They tried to find us a tire, but on Sunday, nothting was open. Randy had dropped his trailer in Kmart parking lot and drove up to the churchhouse to see if there was a member who lived in Hayden that we could leave our trailer with. Only Randy would have thought about that. He did find a member and Allen and I drove very slow into town and found the house. They were so nice and helpful. We parked the trailer in their backyard and the plan was that Katie and Rodney would get us a tire in town the next day and then pick up our trailer to take to their house. Becky and Randhy brought Blake home with them and would meet katie the next week with Blake and so would also trade off our trailer. These people we had never met before actually ended up replacing our tire for us and had it all ready for Rodney when he went to get it. Katie also got us a tire for the trailer, so now we have a spare!!

We had a great reunion and so excited for next year!! It's our turn again to plan it and it has to be better each year!!! Katie started the tradition this year with a sign, so next year we going to carry it on. Stayed tuned for next year's reunion!
